Before we talk closed-captioning-You ar...Hi Andrea!
Before we talk closed-captioning-You are the person responsible for the World Deaf Information Resource Project at Gallaudet? Unbelievable! Congratulations on such an incredible feat, really! Actually, I sent an email to your website to request that you include GPOD- www.gpodhh.org - I find it strange that you are commenting here *smile*
Nice to "meet" you and your project is an unbelievable asset to Deaf organizations globally.

In regard to the English-Italian translation, what it came up with was understandable enough. I wrote what I did because every time I go to the USA we flip on the closed-captioning option on the tv and the programs are ccd 100% of the time. Of course that could be because my tv is usually on the Disney Channel or the Cartoon Network *smile*, so I get your point.

You would be shocked at how few programs are ccd here, it's embarrassing, really. I hope the organizations are able to bring about change. The best thing for us was when dvds started coming out with the English language option, Jordan loved that! Now with his ci he doesn't complain as much, but he does definitely prefer subtitles.

Nice to kind of meet you and again, congratulations on having established such an incredible project.
Thanks for stopping by...
Jodi
PS. If you have time to send some links my way in regard to closed-captioning in the USA, it would be appreciated.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11437710259566671762noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1249466858846921675.post-53974506751595488872009-10-28T09:10:28.702-07:002009-10-28T09:10:28.702-07:00English & Italian:

Mi scuso in anticipo!)

(Unfortunately, I know no Italian. I am using google translator to translate this comment from English to Italian. Computers are not as smart as humans. That means this translation will be bad. My apologies in advance!)

Actually, it is not accurate to claim that EVERY single TV program in the United States has subtitles. I live in the US. Yes, it is true that MOST TV programming on MAJOR STATIONS do have captions. However, there are many many smaller, local stations and smaller cable stations in the US that still have very little or no subtitles. Also, if you buy a dvd, often the movie has subtitles but the "special features" do not. This is for major movies and TV shows. For small, independent films on dvd, there might still be no subtitles at all.

I agree that TV in Italy and every other country should have subtitles! I am glad that US TV is providing inspiration for the movement to subtitle everything in other countries. I hope you can succeed! But I wanted to give accurate information about subtitles in the US.Andrea S.http://wecando.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
